India recorded 93,249 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours on Sunday, exceeding Saturday’s six-month-high figure of 89,129 new cases. India’s daily tally is now the highest in the world, having surpassed the United States of America (70,569) and Brazil (70,238).

India’s cumulative Covid case tally is 1,24,85,509 and Covid-related death toll is 1,64,623. A total of 1,16,29,289 people have recovered from the infection so far.

1) India saw 60,048 discharges and 513 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry’s data. This is the first time India' daily Covid-related death toll has crossed 500 since December 2020.

2) There are almost 7 lakh active cases in India currently. The figure stands at 6,91,597.

3) With Phase 3 of India’s vaccination drive in full swing, more than 7.5 crore doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have administered in the country as of now.

4) Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said the state vaccinated a record 4.6 lakh people on Saturday.

5) A research analysis done by the Indian Institute of Science suggested that if the current trend continues, India’s case tally is likely to cross 1.4 crore by the end of May. The analysis showed that in the worst-case scenario, active cases could touch 20 lakh by the end of May. But the virus can be contained if people get themselves vaccinated and follow Covid safety guidelines.

6) Vice President Venkaiah Naidu got his second dose of the Covid vaccine on Sunday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi.

7) Maharashtra continues to be the biggest contributor to India's daily Covid tally. On Saturday, the state reported 49,447 new cases. Of these, 9,108 were from Mumbai.

8) Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said on Sunday that more beds will be made operational in medical facilities treating Covid patients. Additionally, all vaccination centres in Mumbai have been kept open this Sunday to ramp up the vaccination drive.

9) Delhi recorded 3,567 new cases and 10 deaths on Saturday. The positivity rate is now 4.48 per cent.

10) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is conducting a high-level meeting with senior officers including Dr VK Paul of NITI Aayog to review the Covid situation in the country, including the vaccination drive.
