Five policemen and one civilian were seriously injured after an IED bom blast in Thangal Bazar area of Imphal in Manipur on Tuesday at around 9.30 am amidst the heavy traffic in the market.

Police cordoned off the area completely soon after the bomb blast injured the six individuals. The injured persons are as follows: Lamabam Amarjit, Thongam Devan, Ningthoujam Ibotomba Singh, Khuraijam Boney of Singjamei Chingamathak, Huirongbam Boboy and Krishna Gurung. Besides Gurung, all of the injured individuals were policemen. Within an hour of the blast, Manipur Chief Minister N.Biren Singh visited the blast site. He said, "This is a heinous and coward act. We condemn it strongly. Those responsible for this will be punished."

While the blast radius was limited to a small area, it seems that the injured individuals were standing close to the area where the bomb was planted. The powerful bomb was planted by unknown miscreants and all injured individuals were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Manipur police team led by Superintendent of Police, Imphal West rushed to the spot and began search operations. No underground outfit was claimed so far. Interestingly, the area where the blast took place was just 150 metres from the city police station.
