Honda has launched the PCX160 in Japan to replace the popular PCX150 maxi-scooter.
And the most crucial update to the scooter is the larger 156cc engine which is a slight bump over the previous 149cc unit. This four-valve motor produces 15.8bhp and 15Nm; an increase of 1.1bhp and 1.8Nm over the PCX150. The new PCX160 also gets an updated exhaust system, redesign air intake, a hydraulic cam tensioner, a new crankshaft as well as an ACG starter also found in the Activa 6G.
Besides the mechanical aspects, the Honda PCX160 gets new styling that is much sharper than before and is coupled with new LED lighting. Even the windscreen is slightly taller now. Honda has also worked on improving the functionality of the PCX160 by equipping it with a 30.4-litre underseat storage that is spacious by 2.4 litres as compared to the PCX150. Additionally, the PCX160’s smart key system will also lock the scooter if the rider walks away without doing so. That’s not all, the Honda PCX160 also comes with Honda Selectable Traction Control like the H’Ness CB350.
The new Honda PCX also gets a new set of wheels- 14-inch upfront and a 13 incher at the back shod with 110/70 and 130/70 section tyres respectively. Meanwhile, braking is done by discs at both ends with single-channel ABS. Now, there is no word about the Honda PCX160’s India launch although the company was contemplating on launching the scooter in the country a while ago. Nevertheless, if launched, the PCX160 will serve as a worthy competitor to the Aprilia SXR160.
